Acne scars are common for those who suffer from acne, especially in their adolescence, however some adults also suffer from the same condition. These scars are often product of inflamed lesions when the follicle, or pore, fills with bacteria, excess oil, or dead skin cell.
The pore will then swell, causing a break in the follicle wall. The infected material leaks out into the dermis, destroying the healthy skin tissue. The two common forms of acne scars are hypertrophic, or raised scars, and atrophic or depressed scars.While these scars can be treated through medication, there are also many natural home remedies to heal these scars and take care of your skin to prevent more in the future.
Lemon juice has natural bleaching properties that can help remove the appearance of dark acne scars, as well as control excess skin oiliness and bacteria with its acidic properties. For this technique, squeeze some fresh lemon juice onto your scars and blemishes and leave it for 5-10 minutes to allow the juice to penetrate the skin. Rinse off with lukewarm water.
Turmeric and Mint
Turmeric has natural antibacterial properties that can be combined with the natural healing and antioxidant properties found in mint is a great formula for healing acne scars. Chop up some mint and strain the juice through a tea towel. Combine the mint juice with equal parts turmeric to form a paste. Apply it to your face and wash it off after 20 minutes with warm water.

Mask with Oatmeal
Combine half a cup of all natural oats (none of that instant stuff) with a quarter cup of rose water and a tablespoon of natural, raw honey. The oatmeal is an excellent exfoliant and helps remove excess oil, while the rosewater and honey have natural anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties. Wear the mask for 15 minutes and rinse off with warm water.
Gram flour is used here as an exfoliant that will scrub away the dead skin cells and allow the skin to breathe and remove scars. Mix 2 tablespoons of gram flour with 1 tablespoon of buttermilk and rosewater each, along with a pinch of turmeric. Apply the mask for 10 minutes and allow it to dry. Rinse the mask off with some lukewarm water.
Papaya contains vitamin A which acts as an antioxidant and papain which breaks down inactive proteins and removes dead skin cells. With the use of a blender, juice a organic papaya and massage the juice into the affected area and rinse off after 10 minutes. The juice works as an anti-aging mask and tightens up the skin which reduces scars, blemishes, and dark spots.
Cucumber is a natural astringent which helps to open pores and remove dirt and oil that causes acne. It is also anti-inflammatory and helps reduce the look of acne scars. Juice a skinned, organic cucumber and apply the juice to your face using a clean cotton pad. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes before removing it with a clean, damp towel.
Aloe Vera Juice
Aloe Vera has anti-inflammatory properties that help to reduce scars on skin, as well as prevent excess oil and hydrate the skin. Extract the gel from a fresh aloe vera plant and apply it to the scars. You can let it sit for 10 minutes and rinse it off, or let it dry and keep it on.
Neem leaves are incredibly useful in natural home skin care. They have alkaloids that give antiviral, antibacterial, and antifungal properties that cleanse the skin of toxins and helps to prevent the appearance of scars. Bruise a few neem leaves in your hands and apply them directly onto the affected areas and leave it on for as long as you like, the longer the better.
Apple Cider Vinegar
Apple cider vinegar can be used to remove dead skin cells that may be blocking the pores on your face, as well as act as an antiseptic. Dilute a few drops of apple cider vinegar with water and apply it to the affected areas with a cotton ball. Let it sit for 10 minutes before rinsing away with warm water.
For any of these treatments to be effective they should be performed at least 2-3 days a week. If results are not appearing as quickly as you like, try using these methods more frequently. Because of the nature of the items used, they are safe for most skin types and can be used as frequently as necessary.
