Stop Using Vaseline Immediately! 4 Reasons You Should Never Put Petroleum Jelly On Your Skin – HealthyTipsAdvice

Vaseline, or it’s base – petroleum jelly – is one of the most used American products, as it’s cheap, unscented, and has a wide array of commercial applications. The only problem? It’s terrible for you!

As petroleum jelly is a byproduct of oil refining, it is neither sustainable, eco-friendly, nor good for you.

Though in labels it’s usually simply labeled as petroleum jelly, it also sometimes shows up as liquid paraffin, mineral oil, paraffin oil, or petrolatum.

One of the biggest downsides of petroleum jelly is that it creates a waterproof barrier on your skin – meaning it blocks pores! This also means it can make burns or sunburns worse, as it traps in the heat.

4 other reasons to stop using Vaseline?

  1. Hydrocarbons
  2. Collagen breakdown
  3. Estrogen dominance
  4. Other potential health complications

As a result, Vaseline can hurt you, and it doesn’t actually nourish or moisturize your skin at all – it just puts a film over the top of your skin instead.

Better alternatives include:

  • Almond oil
  • Beeswax
  • Cocoa butter
  • Coconut oil
  • Jojoba oil
  • Shea butter
