Artocarpus odoratissimus or more commonly known as marang is a delicious and very healthy fruit. Marang grows in tropical places, most especially in South East Asian countries such as Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, and the Philippines.
Indeed in the Philippines, one can find the marang almost everywhere. Its distinct appearance makes it appear like a miniature jackfruit with a bulb-like figure. This fruit has seeds inside.
Once a marang fruit is ripe and opened, it must be consumed right away. This is because the fruit oxidizes very quickly and will lose its flavor once exposed to the air.
We mentioned that the marang is a very healthy fruit – and for good reason. This fruit is full of vitamins and nutrients which the body needs.
It has Vitamin A, retinol (Vitamin A1) Vitamin C, Niacin, Riboflavin, Thiamine, and Beta-carotene. Besides that, it also has protein, iron, phosphorous, calcium, and carbohydrates.
The marang is a great source of energy as it also contains a substantial amount of carbohydrates. People with diabetes, however, should avoid this fruit.
This fruit can also stand in for a banana if you’re looking for your potassium fix. Because of its high potassium levels, eating a marang can lower your chances of getting heart disease as well as decrease your blood pressure levels.
The fruit can also help ease constipation because it is rich in fiber. If you’re currently experiencing an irregular bowel movement, then this fruit is what you need.
